EXPLORING

 

  • Eco tourism adventures: Personalized walks and snowshoe treks through the Chateauguay wilderness area. Check with The Fan House.

  • Silver Lake State Park: Enjoy swimming, fishing, boating or just relaxing lakeside.

  • Appalachian Trail: Hike the famous Appalachian Trail. There's a lovely 1.5- hour walk approximately six miles south on Rt. 12 from the Fan House.

  • On-Road/Off-Road Biking: Great trails in all directions out of Barnard. Our favorite scenic route is a 14-mile circle to and from the Fan House.

  • Hot Air Ballooning: Balloons Over New England launches from nearby Quechee.

  • Quechee Gorge State Park: A mile-long chasm 180 feet down with an easy walking trail.

  • Killington Resort: Four season resort offering skiing, snowboarding, golf, mountain biking and gondola rides to summit on summer weekends.

  • Okemo Resort: Adventure for any season. Skiing & snowboarding, mountain biking, summer concerts, hiking and golf.

  • Suicide Six: 23 skiing and snowboarding trails minutes from The Fan House.

  • Horse Drawn Rides: Offered by Billings Farm & Museum throughout the winter. Year-round this farm and museum showcase how farm life was lived over a century ago.

  • Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park: The Laurance Rockefeller’s country house with fine collection of Hudson River School paintings.

  • The Vermont Institute of National Science: The VINS Nature Center in Quechee is considered New England's leading raptor center.

  • Hood Museum of Art: Modern and contemporary works; affiliated with Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH.

  • Saint-Gaudens National Historical Site: Discover sculpture, studios and gardens of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, one of America's greatest sculptors, who lived and worked in Cornish, NH.

  • Hildene: The historic summer home of Robert Todd Lincoln in Manchester, NH.

  • Shelburne Museum: One of the country's most diverse museums of paintings, folk art, quilts and textiles, New England history and architecture. Over 150,000 works are on view in 39 exhibition buildings located on the Museum's 45 acres of lilacs, landscaped grounds, and gardens in Shelburne, VT, in Lake Champlain.

  • Hall Art Foundation: May through November exhibitions of world-class artists from private collection, displayed in restored barns in Reading, VT. No entry fee but reservations requested as tours are docent-led.

  • Simon Pearce: Watch the art of glassblowing and visit the famous retail store. In nearby Quechee.

  • ShackletonThomas: Visit the pottery & furniture workshops in Bridgewater.
